Sanctions against Russia

As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU and Denmark are imposing sanctions against Russia and its allies on an ongoing basis.

Below is a general overview of a wide range of the sanctions that have been decided.

The EU has imposed sanctions on hundreds of people and entities. Among those sanctioned are Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, members of the State Duma, a number of Russian oligarchs, prominent businessmen and their families. The sanctions include i.a. freezing of funds as well as travel restrictions.

Sanctions against Russian banks and financial institutions have been decided – including Russia's central bank. The sanctions include the exclusion from SWIFT cooperation of several Russian credit institutions and their Russian subsidiaries, as well as a ban on the transfer of euro banknotes.

Prohibition on broadcasting certain state-owned Russian media in the EU.

Russian aircrafts have been banned from EU airspace.

A ban has been decided on exporting a number of products within e.g. shipping, aviation and oil industry to Russia.

Sanctions against Donetsk and Luhansk

Regarding the areas of Donetsk and Luhansk that are outside the control of the Ukrainian government, a number of restrictions have been adopted such as restrictions on trade and investment in certain economic sectors as well as restrictions on the import and export of certain goods.

Separate sanctions against Belarus

Prohibition on the export of dual-use items and technology (civil and military) as well as restrictions on trade in certain goods. In addition, financial sanctions have been decided.
